The Alcoholism Center for Women (ACW) is incorporated as a 501(c) 3 organization with the mission of supporting the recovery from and prevention of alcoholism and other drug-related problems among all women at high risk for substance abuse.
Established in 1974 to address the special needs of women affected by alcohol and other drug abuse, ACW is now licensed and certified by the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Program to provide a variety of residential and outpatient rehabilitation programs supported by Medi-Cal, CAL-Works, Proposition 36 funds, City of Los Angeles Community Development Department, General Relief (GR), and the Los Angeles County Alcohol and Drug Program Administration.
Alcoholism Center for WomenLocated at 1147 S. Alvarado in the Pico-Union/Westlake District of the City of Los Angeles, ACW is the only substance abuse service agency providing a continuum of care exclusively to underserved women in Los Angeles County Service Planning Area (SPA) 4.
Its prevention, outpatient, and residential programs, staffed by California Association of Addiction Recovery Resources certified personnel, enable women to learn parenting and independent living skills, receive substance abuse instruction, STD and HIV/AIDS risk reduction counseling, and emotional and psychological support.
